Match the stack to the goal
A marketing site doesn't need the same stack as a SaaS dashboard. Be honest about what you're building.
When to use a website builder (Webflow, Framer)
If your needs are mostly marketing pages, you value self-service editing, and you don't need complex logic — a builder is fast and cost-effective. The ceiling is low, but so is the floor.
When to use an ecommerce platform (Shopify)
If you're selling physical products and want batteries-included commerce, Shopify is hard to beat. It's not flexible, but it removes entire categories of work.
When to go custom (Next.js + TypeScript)
When you need custom logic, integrations, performance, or scale beyond what builders offer. This is the majority of serious business websites. You get full control and unlimited ceiling.
When to go full custom application
Dashboards, portals, SaaS products, internal tools — anything with complex state, users, and business logic. Next.js with a real database.
The framework matters less than the team. A senior team will build something great on any stack; a junior team will struggle on the best one.
